What makes Sri Lanka unique?
Sri Lanka is a beautiful island country in the Indian Ocean that boasts lush landscapes, hidden rock caves, ancient sacred temples, emerald tea plantations, tropical waterfalls, and stunning beaches.
The people of this idyllic country are always welcoming and very happy to help anyone who is in need.
Voted the best country in the world to visit in 2019 by Lonely Planet, it attracts visitors from all around the globe who want to experience its rich history, diverse culture, stunning landscapes, spectacular wildlife, and delicious foods.
Why do they urgently need help?
Despite the country’s natural beauty, history and culture, the people of Sri Lanka continue to face extremely difficult political and economic times.
The Civil War, Boxing Day Tsunami (2004), the Easter Bombings (2019) and the COVID pandemic have claimed hundreds of thousands of lives, devastated their vital tourism industry and left over 7 million people in urgent need of humanitarian aid, according to the UN.
Now Sri Lanka is facing the worst economic crisis since 1948.
Inflation hit a shocking 50%, there are shortages of food, fuel, fertiliser and medical supplies, failed harvests, power outages and thousands of children are trying to survive on just one meagre meal per day.
What YOU can do to make a difference
Here at the Coconut Compost Company, we will donate 10% of our profits to charities in Sri Lanka to help support the local community.
This means that when you buy your sustainable coir compost from us, you aren’t only reducing your carbon footprint and protecting the planet but also helping to save lives and creating a better future for those in need.
The factories also provide much-needed jobs and income that help bring people out of poverty, provide opportunities, and ensure that children have enough to eat.
